Repellents

Sold throughout the EU, Asia and Australasia, Sphere‘s formulations are general-purpose vertebrate repellents that have been found to be effective on all vertebrates against which they have been tried, from mice to elephants. In essence they operate by two routes, namely taste and smell. There are two formulations currently available on the Professional UK market; Liquid Curb Crop Spray (MAPP 18643) and Curb Garden Powder (MAPP 18644)  (See Sphere page for more details of amateur labels)

Curb Liquid Crop Spray (MAPP 18643)

This formulation is a soluble concentrate liquid formulation containing 830g/litre of synergised aluminium ammonium sulphate and is approved for the use as an agricultural/horticultural/forestry animal and bird repellent. Liquid Curb Crop Spray is not systemic. A single application is normally sufficient to protect crops; however where attacks follow a yearly pattern or are particularly heavy (due to severe weather conditions or other factors) additional applications may be required to protect new growth.

Curb Crop Spray Powder (MAFF 02480)

This is a soluble powder formulation containing 880g/kg of synergised aluminium ammonium sulphate for repelling animals and birds in both crops and non-crop situations. It is also approved for the use in agriculture/horticulture/forestry and industrial use as an animal and bird repellent. As with the liquid the powder is not systemic. Therefore a single application is normally sufficient to protect crops unless the attacks follow a yearly pattern or are particularly heavy (due to severe weather conditions or other factors) additional applications may be made.

For both Curb formulations there is no limit on the number of applications that can be applied. Re-infestation is by definition variable depending on species mobility and food availability. Therefore the length of time between applications is highly variable ranging from a few weeks to >90 days. As with all repellents of this type once substantial feeding damage has occurred (an established behavioural pattern has developed) on unprotected crops the level of control by the two Curb formulations may be reduced.
